Privacy Policy

Effective 4 October 2026 · applies to the Haunted Places Near Me iOS app and this website

The short version: no accounts, no ads, no tracking. Your location never leaves your phone. What you read stays on your device. Payments go through Apple, and we never see your card.

Who we are

Haunted Places Near Me (the "app") is made by DigitalBox Studios ("we", "us"). Questions about this policy go to digitalboxstudios@protonmail.com.

What the app keeps on your device only

  • Your location. If you allow it, the app uses your location to sort places by distance and centre the map. It is used on your device only. It is never sent to us and never stored on any server we control. You can say no and keep using everything except the distance features.
  • What you've read, how many free stories you've used, any free-story gifts, and your settings (theme, Halloween mode, map style).

Deleting the app deletes all of this.

Services the app connects to

To work, the app talks to a few third-party services. Each one receives your device's IP address as part of any normal internet request, and each has its own privacy policy:

  • Apple (privacy policy): maps, the App Store, and in-app purchases. Apple processes all payments; we never receive or store payment details.
  • RevenueCat (privacy policy): manages subscriptions. It receives your purchase history and a random, anonymous app user ID so it can check what you've bought and restore purchases. This ID is not linked to your name, email, or identity.
  • Wikimedia Foundation (privacy policy): most place photographs are loaded from Wikimedia Commons.
  • Google (privacy policy): part of the place catalogue is downloaded from a Google Sheets document so new stories can arrive without an app update. No personal information is sent with that request.

Tracking and advertising

The app does not track you. It does not use the advertising identifier, does not link app data with other companies' data for advertising, and does not share data with data brokers. It shows no ads. We don't use analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.

Notifications

The app does not send push notifications.

This website

This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics. It loads its fonts from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address (Google's privacy policy). If you switch the ghost cursor trail off, your browser remembers that choice in its own local storage. The choice never reaches us.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it.

Your rights

We hold no personal data about you on our own servers. Data held by the services above (for example, your purchase history at Apple and RevenueCat) is covered by their policies, and you can make requests to them directly. You can also email us and we'll help where we can. Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your data.

Security

All connections the app makes use HTTPS. Because we keep so little, there is very little to lose. Still, no system is perfectly secure.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update it on this page and change the effective date at the top.
