The Plains of Abraham are remembered for a battle fought on 13 September 1759, after British forces reached the heights outside Quebec during a prolonged siege. British and French troops met on the field; the fighting was brief, but its consequences were immense. James Wolfe and Louis-Joseph de Montcalm were both mortally wounded. Quebec surrendered days later, and the conflict formed a decisive moment in the struggle for control of New France.
