The dark-roofed house on Essex Street is the Jonathan Corwin House, not a residence of anyone accused of witchcraft. Corwin bought the property in 1675 and had the house completed by housewright Daniel Andrews. Seventeen years later, he became one of the magistrates involved in the Salem witchcraft proceedings. In 1692 he served on the Court of Oyer and Terminer, which heard the capital cases.
