In 1843, mountain men Jim Bridger and Louis Vasquez established a trading post on Black’s Fork of the Green River. The location put the post along routes used by emigrants moving west, and it soon became a place where travelers could replenish supplies, repair equipment, and gather information before continuing across difficult country. Fort Bridger grew from the fur trade into an emigrant supply stop, its business shifting as the traffic along the overland trails increased.
