When Henry and Georgiana Pittock moved into their new home in 1914, they brought eight other family members with them. The 22-room mansion stood high above Portland, equipped with features that marked it as a modern house as well as a display of wealth: an elevator, central vacuum, intercoms, and indirect lighting. Its view gathered the city, the Willamette River, and the Cascade Mountains into one frame.
