The Salem Witch Trials Memorial does not reproduce the courtroom or the gallows. Twenty granite benches extend from a low stone wall, each bearing the name of a person put to death during the 1692 crisis. The memorial opened in 1992, three centuries after the executions, in a small space beside Charter Street Cemetery. Its form is restrained: names, dates, and the means of execution leave the visitor to confront the record.
