Ballygally Castle was built in 1625 by James Shaw and his wife, Isabella Brisbane Shaw, on the Antrim coast. Its Scottish-style plan and corner turrets reflect the settlers who crossed from Scotland to Ulster in the early seventeenth century. The castle later became a hotel, but its thick walls and old rooms still look out toward the coast road and the sea.
